Prospective Students: Tech Requirements

Hardware and software requirements

SNL Online courses are designed to make your online learning experience as rich and rewarding as possible. To access the podcasts, videos and interactive media in your course, you must be able to download and install programs on your computer (typically iTunes, Flash Player and Acrobat Reader; some courses require other specialized players or readers) and you'll need to meet minimum technical specifications wherever you plan to login.

If you've purchased a new computer within the last 3 years you'll meet the capabilities needed, otherwise use the following minimum guidelines.

SNL Online Minimum Required Technical Specifications:

PCs:

  • Access to high-speed network connection (not dial-up)
  • Processor: Pentium D
  • Operating System: Windows XP
  • Memory: 2 Gigabytes RAM
  • Hard drive: 120 Gigabyte
  • Sound card and speakers
  • Headset with microphone
  • Monitor with 1024 x 728 pixel resolution or better
  • Printer
  • Software – install latest versions unless otherwise specified:

Opera, AOL, Prodigy, CompuServe, and other ISP-provided browsers are not supported.


Macs

  • Access to high-speed network connection (not dial-up)
  • Processor: PowerPC G4 or Intel
  • Operating System: OS X 10.4.9
  • Memory: 2 Gigabytes RAM
  • Hard drive: 120 Gigabyte
  • Sound card and speakers
  • Headset with microphone
  • Monitor with 1024 x 728 pixel resolution or better
  • Printer
  • Software – install latest versions unless otherwise specified:
    • Internet Browsers: Safari 5.1 or higher, Google Chrome, and Firefox 18 or higher
    • Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 or 2011 (including Word, Excel and Powerpoint)
    • Flash Player
    • QuickTime
