We think our adult students are pretty remarkable. They sucessfully juggle jobs, family, and coursework to earn their DePaul degree through SNL Online. Kelly Sipich and Shanita Clark share their stories, their challenges and achievements, and some tips to help you succeed too.
Kelly Sipich
I chose SNL because...In my late 30’s I felt that being able to transfer some of my life experiences was a good fit for me. I did not want to be treated as a traditional student.
One positive thing I have learned since coming to DePaul is...That it is never too late to learn.
SNL Online courses helped me succeed because…It keeps me time-bound, checking the discussion board daily to get updates, post and to reply to classmates posts.
The learning environment here at SNL Online is… Very respectful and supportive, especially for those students who have been out of school for a long time.
The biggest obstacle I had to face as a student was...Not having the face-to-face dialog. I learned through the SNL online discussion board program that I learned just as much as in a traditional classroom.
My favorite professor was...Tough question. Overall my favorite professors were the ones that graded assignments sooner than later in order for me to receive feedback and the professors who responded to questions and concerns in a prompt manner—there were more than one!
My favorite SNL Online course was...Creative Writing. This was my first class and it was a challenge for me which I ended up enjoying. I also wrote a kind of biography that turned out to be a type of therapy for me, very enlightening. The professor was very supportive and gave great, useful feedback.
The one thing I’d like to say to students considering SNL Online is...SNL Online is the easiest way to transition back into learning, especially when life is so demanding. Don’t let your schedule (or age) determine what you can’t do. Taking online classes allows you the flexibility to learn.

SNL Online courses helped me succeed because…I have enough time to complete school work and still be able to get other things done.
The learning environment here at SNL Online is…Awesome. I had never been a fan of online courses, but SNL Online gave me a different outlook. Everything is done thoroughly as if I were in a classroom.
The biggest obstacle I had to face as a student was...Research papers. Writing papers has always been a challenge for me.
My favorite professor was...Peter Forster. He was very straight-forward and informative with the information needed for the course.
My favorite SNL Online course was...Assessing and Managing Conflict. I love this course. The communication between the students and the professor was great. There was never a question that went unanswered or a comment ignored.
The one thing I’d like to say to students considering SNL Online is...Go for it!!! It will be one of the best decisions that you ever make!
